MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL JUNE 2-11

For two decades the Melbourne International Jazz Festival has showcased the world’s best jazz, right here in Melbourne, and has grown to become Australia’s pre-eminent jazz festival. This year we are lucky to have the most awarded female jazz vocalist of all time, Dianne Reeves, performing at Hamer Hall Sunday 11th June.

A musician with a gift for imbuing any performance space with the intimacy of a living room, Reeves was born into a musical family (George Duke was her cousin and frequent longtime collaborator). She toured with Sergio Mendes and Harry Belafonte in the 80s before launching her own stellar solo career by using jazz as a ‘passport’ to other styles, including Latin, African, reggae, R&B, blues, and pop classics.

With her intoxicating stage presence, captivating voice and improvisational virtuosity, Dianne Reeves is a natural wonder not to be missed. Her highly anticipated return to Melbourne promises to be nothing short of legendary.

Head to melbournejazz.com for ticketing info and the full festival programme!

DJ SHADOW MELBOURNE SHOW WEDNESDAY 31/5/17

The legendary DJ Shadow will bring his This Mountain Will Fall tour to Australia this May, hitting Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and two special nights at Sydney’s Vivid Festival.

He recently had a chat with The Guardian about the art of sampling and it’s place in music today. “For me, what I’m always reaching for is just a pure form of expression,” he says. “That’s what I look for in music. I want to be taken on a ride, I want to be taken somewhere, and I want to be invested in the artist. And most of the music I identify strongest with is by artists that really live – they’re artists that make music for their entire life and music is their life.”

You can check him out this Wednesday 31st May at 170 Russell supported by Arks. Tickets available from Moshtix.
