WAX MUSEUM SUBWAY SESSION #6

Wax Museum and
The Beats Below present Subway Session #6! We’re buzzing to once again have a vibrant mix of talented producers and DJs join us for one of our famous Friday night lock-ins.

Local beatsmith BryZone (YBP) surprised us all when he gingerly skipped through to consign us his “No Compaints” beat tape, released earlier this year. Since then it’s been on heavy rotation, thus it’s our pleasure to have him and his SP-404 do it all live from behind the Wax counter! Anyone who caught his LAB Co. counterparts do their thing a few sessions back will know what to expect, so get down early for this!

Following up on the decks in Room 1 will be Melbourne legend Jeff Holden spinning a premium selection of boogie, funk and associated grooves. A collector of deep and soulful underground music for as long as the genre has existed, his arrival to the sessions is epically overdue and we can’t wait to hear what he’s packed.

With Wax Museum heavies Barry Sunset, Benny Badge clocking some musical overtime and the promise of fine ales from the people at Sample Brew, Session Six will not be one to miss!

5pm til we’re done, mi subterraneo su subterraneo… OUR SUBWAY IS YOURS!! Full event info here.

Art by the incredible MINDTWIST!

WU-TANG CLAN RELEASE NEW ALBUM “THE SAGA CONTINUES”

RZA shepherded members of the Wu-Tang Clan for a new LP titled Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues. RZA executive produced the album that’s “crafted by” his beat-making associate DJ Mathematics. The album comes out October 13th. The album’s first single “People Say” features the Wu’s Method Man, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa alongside Method Man’s frequent collaborator Redman trading verses over a soul sampled-beat courtesy of Mathematics.

RZA explaining its genesis says: “There was a young brother that was our deejay. He was working construction. I hired him to draw the Wu-Tang logo. His name was Allah Mathematics. And he always was in the shadows doing the knowledge..He learned how to make beats and produce and after a while—when I became a composer I became further and further away from the sound of Wu-Tang I mean I don’t use the ASR-10  anymore…Mathematics stayed right there with it. So he was really given the task and he took the task upon himself to go and start having the members re-energize their verses to the classic Wu-Tang sound. After he got it to a certain degree, he was like, “I’m going to come over and show you where we’re at.” He showed me and I was like, “Yo, The Saga Continues.”

RIP CHARLES BRADLEY & UKU KUUT

Music fans young and old have been saddened by the loss of two great artists over the weekend. Uku Kuut was an Estonian producer known for his unique electronic Soul, Funk & Jazz recordings. He reached wider notoriety several years back after being unearthed by Washington’s “Peoples Potential Unlimited” re-issue label, his sultry, synth-heavy 90s productions striking chords with DJs and collectors worldwide.

Charles Bradley, known as the “Screaming Eagle of Soul”, was a key artist on Daptone Records, the label made infamous with it’s celebration and revivalism of funk and soul music from the 1960s and 1970s. His performances and recording style were compared to greats including Otis Redding and James Brown. Fans willing to show their support can donate to these select charities.
