In the months since releasing their debut album “So Good To You” – widely regarded as modern soul classic – Silver Linings have used a bustling schedule on the Melbourne band circuit to influence recent sessions. “Like Before” is the first of these, heralding the addition of guitarist Lachlan Peavey to the group and a new phase for the trio – also consisting of Françoise & Benny Badge.
To celebrate this upcoming release on Gulf Point Records (as well as the band’s imminent tour!) Silver Linings will be joined at The Gasometer Hotel by some of their close friends and supporters. Local duo messy mammals will kick off the show, backed by DJs Barry Whiter and Ricardo McFly.
Sunday 25th June, 8 til late. $12 presolds via www.oztix.com.au or $15 on the door! Check out the facebook event for more.
This September, the electro funk super duo, Mayer Hawthorne & Jake One take their widely celebrated ‘Tuxedo’ live project on tour. Tuxedo is the culmination of a seven-year effort which sees Grammy nominated renaissance Mayer Hawthorne (Aquarius) and Grammy nominated producer Jake One (Taurus) team up.
They are descendants of the one-word moniker family of funk, where you will find groups such as Chic, Shalamar, Plush & Zapp. Mayer’s last visit to the Pacific region happened way back in 2012 long before he received a Grammy nomination or toured with Bruno Mars. His collaboration with Jake One as ‘Tuxedo’ began with an exchange of mix tapes back in 2006. The fruits of a long-standing kinship were three tracks that mysteriously showed up on Internet doorsteps nearly two years ago.
These three tracks evolved into an internationally successful album, with their debut collaboration placing 14th on the Billboard chart. To date, Tuxedo’s live outings have been the stuff of legend, with only 3 shows ever having been performed in their full band format. Their acclaimed DJ show has popped up at random, across Europe and America in recent months, however this September brings something special.
Catch Tuxedo performing a special sound-system set at The Prince Bandroom, St. Kilda Saturday 19th September. Tickets available here.
The Sydney local, known in live circuits as Kimberly Aviso, wears the sassy new moniker in collaboration with local producer Benny Badge. Released on UK based Gulf Point Records last month, “Natural High” features four throw back 80s-style funk tracks edging on 90s-style R&B – the same vibe you can expect from her *LIVE* set in Howler’s front room this coming Sunday 23/8/15.
