For the next few instalments the good people at Sinematek are heading deep down the rabbit hole of club culture, teaming up with LOOP BAR to present another staple from the history of  music films!

In these dire times for cinema, GROOVE is a refreshingly uptempo experience.  On Friday, a single e-mail blips through the Internet. The word spreads quickly through the city: the party is on. Saturday evening, two hundred people secretly converge at an abandoned San Francisco warehouse. As the sun sets the records start spinning, setting into motion a night that no one will forget. Featuring a fabulous ensemble of party people, plus a slew of real life ‘West Coast DJs’, GROOVE is a small treasure for ravers past and present. “Groove provides a cleaned-up, innocuous version of the rave scene, showing it as a life-affirming voyage of discovery instead of what it often is” – Roger Ebert

Tickets are $10 including the film. $5 cash on the door if you just want to attend the party. Full info here!

Due to popular demand, Sinematek and Wax Museum Records are stoked to announce an encore screening of RAVING IRAN on Friday 01 December.

Anoosh and Arash perform together under the moniker Blade&Beard in Tehran. Tired of hiding from the police and their stagnating career, they organise one last manic techno rave under dangerous circumstances in the desert. Back in Tehran they try their luck selling their illegally printed album without permission. When Anoosh is arrested, there seems to be no hope left. But then they receive a phone call from the biggest techno festival in the world. Once landed in Switzerland, the haze of the instant euphoria evaporates quickly when the seriousness of the situation starts to dawn on them.

Shot discreetly using iPhones, RAVING IRAN captures the raw and exhilarating underground techno scene in Tehran and the two DJs who defy the Islamic regime. Watch the trailer here: http://www.ravingiran.com/trailer.html

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here. Get in quickly this time kids!

Again, film will kick off at 6:30pm, beers from 6:00pm. See you then!
